Webcom Establishes New Product Development Team

At Webcom, we continue to invest in the most current technologies that allow us to offer everything from traditional book manufacturing to the latest developments in web publishing and interactive CD-ROM technology. This way our customers can benefit from the most effective, state-of-the-art publishing solutions available.

Our customers count on our expertise to help them understand the new publishing technologies, and how these can be applied to their business, and to the continuous improvements of their products.

In order to further our service commitment, and help our customers take full advantage of new technological advances, we have established a New Product Development Team.

The team members include Marlin Doner and Elliot Good, both New Product Development Managers; Manuel Guttierrez, Engineer, Phil Thomson, Prepress Manager, Charlie Roth, IT Director and Vince Farelli, Financial Analyst.

The focus of this team is to develop applications to help customers deliver their information across different media including print, CD-ROM and on-line publishing. With these new technologies, customers can now get more mileage out of their media assets - text and graphics can be reformatted and reused for a variety of print and multi-media products. They will also realize greater efficiencies, not only in delivery time, but in costs as well.

"Our customers can now more effectively create high quality, unique and effective materials in printed format, on CD-ROM or on-line as eCommerce-enabled web sites - and reduce their upfront costs," says Elliott Good, New Product Development Manager.

Here is an overview of six applications being developed by the team:

Title Value Management (TVM): A program combining offset and digital printing to manage quantities throughout a title's life, in order to optimize publishers' profitability.

Print-on-Demand (POD): An extension of the TVM concept, a title can be printed on demand from electronic archives in quantities as low as one.

Digital Asset Management (DAM): Provides cataloging and storage of digital files for output to print or electronic format. Through direct electronic updating, archiving and retrieval, customers can maximize the value of their publishing assets.

Documents-on-Demand: A system that manages documents (Offset/Digital) and other collateral materials from a web-based portal, providing pick and pack, fulfillment and distribution services.

Custom Publishing: End users can browse publishing files on-line from central archives, build custom publications and then order on demand.

ePublishing: Design and development of multi-media products including web-based and eCommerce, using a variety of technologies and platforms.

With the implementation of these new technologies, Webcom strengthens its position as a single-source partner for innovative communications solutions.
