CREATING POSTSCRIPT FILES FROM PAGEMAKER 6.5 FOR MACINTOSH

Please note that these instructions are for PageMaker 6.5. The instructions for creating PostScript with other versions of PageMaker are slightly different. If you have any questions about using an older version of PageMaker, please contact your Webcom Representative.

Step 1

  1. When you are ready to create PostScript files, go to the File Menu and select Print. The first of a set of submenus is the Document Menu (see Figure 1).
  2. For PPD, Prinergy Refiner.
  3. Deselect Collate, Reverse and Proof.
  4. Ensure that Print Blank Pages is selected.
Step 2
  1. Now click Paper, which is the next submenu (see Figure 2).
  2. Ensure that the Scale size is 100%.
  3. Select Printer’s Marks and Page Information**.
  4. For Paper Size, select a size that will accommodate the Printer’s marks. Letter size will be fine for most book sizes.
Step 3
  1. Under the Options menu (see Figure 3), ensure that Page Independence is selected. This is a crucial setting and your files may not be usable if this is not selected.
  2. Set Send Image Data to Normal.
  3. Select Write PostScript to File and then Save As to select a destination for your PostScript file. Here you are prompted to name your PostScript file. Use a file naming system that will indicate their order. For example, the PostScript file for the front matter of a book might be named 01front.ps and chapter 1 of the book would be named 02chap1.ps, etc.
  4. The Format must be Normal.
  5. For Font Inclusion, select PostScript and TrueType.
Step 4
  1. In the Color Menu and set the Frequency to 120 lpi (see Figure 4).
  2. Ensure that Mirror, Negative and Preserve EPS Colors are all deselected.
  3. Select Composite.
  4. Click Save to generate the PostScript file.
**NOTE: If your document contains bleeds, do not select Printer’s Marks as the marks will be too close to the final trim. Instead, print your hardcopy with the marks and we will use it as a guide for setting the margins.
