The Webcom Pressroom
At Webcom we provide digital text and cover printing in addition to offset text and cover/jacket printing - all under one roof. Our high-efficiency offset and digital web presses and full-colour sheetfed presses provide fast set-up and minimal trim waste to help us "hold the line" on production costs.
Colour Management
Quality improvement has taken another step forward at Webcom with the adoption of new
technology and computer measurement for process colour management of both covers and
text pages. Customers will enjoy the benefits of:
colour and ink consistency throughout print runs
greater assurance of reprint colour consistency
flexibility to customize to brand colours
confidence of proof to press colour matching
credibility of industry standard settings
| | |
What it Involves
At the Prepress stage, the proofer is calibrated to the presses and account for differences in paper shade.
During the cover printing process, we have implemented a closed loop colour management system whereby
a scanning spectrophotometer feeds live data to a
press-side computer. This allows ink key presets to be automatically adjusted and applied throughout the print run, correcting any CMYK colour variations without
interrupt. Streamlining our processes has significantly reduced make ready times, improved efficiencies and minimized associated production waste to serve you faster and better.
Similar measures are applied to text pages to maintain ink consistency and ensure quality adherence to industry standards. Workflow is continuous and consistent; the end result, quantifiable and high in quality.

Colouring Within Industry Standards
Webcom systems are calibrated to GRACoL (General
Requirements for Applications in Commercial Offset
Lithography) specifications, which outlines set
process controls that are founded on digital imaging,
spectrophotometry, and computer-to-plate (CtP)
principles. Customers can be confident in our production of colour and the closed loop system as a whole. Details about industry standards can be found at
www.idealliance.org.
Consistent and Flexible
For projects that require specific matching outside of GRACoL standards, ink and density settings can be
manipulated. Customer profiles can be saved and
retrieved for future print production projects to ensure predictable and consistent results.
These colour management improvements are but one facet of Webcom's overall quality measurement program - to improve our service and deliver books, catalogs or directories that help your business excel.

Text Printing
Webcom was the first printer in Canada to use
coldset web offset presses for book manufacturing. Since that time we have engineered a pressroom which efficiently manufactures a wide range of popular book trim sizes, in up to four colours, such as:
| 3 1/4" x 5" | Pocket Size Reference Books |
| 4 1/4" x 7" | Mass Market Paperbacks |
| 4" x 8" & 4" x 9" | Pocket Directories and Manuals |
| 6" x 9" | Trade Titles, University Course Catalogs |
| 7 3/8" x 9 1/4" | College and Elhi Texts |
| 7" x 10" | Professional Annuals, Educational Supplements |
| 8 1/2" x 11" | Directories, Catalogs, Trade Titles, Study Guides |
| 9" x 12" | Music Folios |
| 11" x 14" | Atlas, Educational Books |
The jewels of our text
pressroom are our
versatile Timson book presses. These two
colour presses feature
computerized inking,
registration and infrared drying systems that improve print quality by providing crisper halftones, stronger solids, screens and colours.
The majority of books printed at Webcom are 1- and 2-colour text, while we also have the capability to print 4-colour process. |

Cover Printing
Our complete in-house facility also includes cover, jacket and insert printing. This full-service offering allows tighter control over project schedules, simplifies the task of pulling all job components together, and reduces costs
Our climate-controlled pressroom houses both 2- and
6-colour sheetfed presses which are used exclusively for printing full-colour covers and inserts.
Webcom's highly skilled sheetfed operators are
experienced in running coated and uncoated stocks in a variety of weights, as well as many of the recycled and synthetic materials available today.
Cover coatings are applied in our
in-house coating department which is
the largest and best-equipped
specialty coatings facility in
Canada that tripled in
capacity in early 2010.
The OnDesign Spot UV is one of our FX specialty coating enhancements available to
give covers greater appeal.
Publishers can choose from
20+ coating applications. |
