CREATING PRINT-READY PDFs
If you intend to send print-ready PDFs as part of your submission to Webcom, please make sure that your Distiller settings are adjusted to the following specifications for compatibility with the Webcom all-digital workflow.
Acrobat Distiller Version 4.X
Step 1
- Use the Job Options pull-down menu and select Press Optimized. This will make changing the specific settings a little easier.
- From the Settings Menu select Job Options. This will bring up the next series of windows as shown.
Step 2
- On the General tab, set Compatibility to Acrobat 4.0.
- Turn ASCII Format off (see Figure 1).
- Deselect Optimize PDF.
- Deselect Generate Thumbnails.
- Set Resolution to 2400 DPI and Binding Left.
Step 3
- In the Compression Tab, change the settings to match the following:
For Color Bitmap Images and Grayscale Bitmap Images change to bicubic downsampling at 300 DPI, change Compression to Zip and Quality to 8-bit.
For Monochrome Bitmap Images set Bicubic downsampling to 1200 DPI, change Compression to Zip. Select Compress Text and Line Art (see Figure 2).
Step 4
- In the Fonts Tab, select Embed All Fonts and deselect Subset All Embedded Fonts Below (see Figure 3).
- Set When Embedding Fails to Cancel Job.
Step 5
In the Color Tab change the settings to match Figure 4.
Step 6
In the Advanced tab change the settings to match Figure 5.
