CREATING POSTSCRIPT FILES

FROM INDESIGN CS AND CS2 FOR PC

A PostScript driver must be installed and configured as per our guidelines. Please see the PostScript Driver Settings section for information on how to install and configure a PostScript Driver.

Before generating PostScript, a new preset must be created for dealing with Transparencies. This preset will be used later when generating PostScript.

Step 1

  1. Select the Edit Menu and then Transparency Flattener Presets
  2. Click New
  3. Enter a name for the new preset.
  4. Set Line Art and Text Resolution to 2400 PPI.
  5. Set Gradient and Mesh Resolution to 300 PPI.
  6. Select Convert all Text to Outlines.
  7. Select Convert all Strokes to Outlines.
  8. De-select Clip Complex Regions.
  9. Click OK and Ok again.

Step 2

  1. From the File Menu select Print.
  2. On the General tab, select PostScript File from the Printers list.
  3. Select Prinergy Refiner* from the PPD list.
  4. Select All Pages or a page range.
  5. For Sequence select All Pages.
  6. Do not select Spreads or Print Master Pages.
  7. Select Print Blank Pages.

Step 3

  1. On the Setup tab, select a Paper Size that will accommodate crop marks. For eg.: for a 8.5X11 document you should choose 10X14. You can also select Custom and set the Width and Height as Auto.
  2. Set Orientation to Portrait, set Offset and Gap to 0.
  3. Set Scale to 100% (if a reduction is required enter it here).
  4. Set Page Position to Centered.

Step 4

  1. Select the Marks & Bleeds Menu.
  2. Select Crop Marks (don’t select any of the other marks).
  3. For Type select Default
  4. Set Weight to .25 pts
  5. Set Offset to 24 pts.
  6. De-select Use Document Bleed Settings.
  7. For Bleed set all values to 1p6 picas.

Step 5

  1. Select the Output Tab, 
  2. Set Colour to Composite Leave Unchanged.

Step 6

  1. Select the Graphics Menu.
  2. Set Send Data to All
  3. Under Fonts, set Download to Complete.
  4. Click Download PPD Fonts.
  5. Select Level 3 for PostScript.
  6. Select ASCII for Data Format.

Step 7 (CS2 ONLY)

  1. Select the Colour Management Menu.
  2. For Colour Handling select No Colour Management.
  3. 1

Step 8

  1. Select the Advanced Menu.
  2. For Gradients, select Force Continuous Tone Behaviour. (CS Only)
  3. Ensure that OPI is not selected.
  4. For Transparency Flattener select the new Preset previously created.
  5. Click Save, select a name and a location for the file.
