RULE AND BORDER SPECIFICATIONS
You should not use a predefined hairline rule in any application. Hairlines rules are defined to image as thin as an output device can image it and at 2400DPI the rule will be 1/2400th of an inch thick, too thin to print on press.
Another point to keep in mind is that shaded rules will print with a halftone dot and if a shaded rule is too thin it will not print well on press. For this reason, rules that need to print as a percentage of a given colour should not be thinner than .5 pt and the shading should be not less than 20%.
Wherever possible, do not use rules to create frames. It is extremely difficult to align rules to create perfect corners on boxes.
Do not use a predefined hairline rule in any application.
