POSTSCRIPT DRIVER SETTINGS

For specific instructions by application, please select from the list that follows. For each section you can select a print-friendly version:

Installing a Print Driver

  1. From your desktop, click the Start button, go to the Settings menu and select
    Printers. A dialog box will appear.
  2. Double click on the Add Printer icon to install a PostScript printer driver.
  3. A series of “Add Printer Wizard” windows appear. Select Next> and then Local
    Printer. Do this even if you are on a network. Select Next>.
  4. From the Manufacturers’ list, select Agfa. From the Printers’ list select Agfa-Proset 9800SF v2013.108. Select Next.
  5. From the Available Ports list, select FILE. Select Next>.
  6. You will be prompted as to whether or not you want this to be the default
    printer. This is up to you. After you have selected Yes or No, select Next>.
  7. You will now be asked if you want to print a test page. Select No and then
    select Finish.

After you have installed a printer driver, it will appear in the Printers control panel. The icon of a disk next to the printer icon means that it is set to print to a file. Now the driver must be configured.

Configuring the Driver

  1. Select the Agfa-Proset 9800SF v2013.108 icon.
  2. From the File menu in the Printers Folder window, select Properties.
  3. Print PostScript error information should be deselected.
  4. Select the Fonts tab. Select Send TrueType fonts to printer according to the font Substitution Table. Click “Send Font As” button. Set Send TrueType fonts to Outlines.
  5. Click on the Advanced button.

Selecting Advanced Options

In “Advanced Options”

  1. Set the following options: Use PostScript Level 2 features, No Bitmap compression, ASCII data, and Send CTRL+D after job.
  2. Select Graphics Options and enter the specifications for the job, including
    resolution (2400 dpi or 2540 dpi), line screen (120 lpi), screen angle (usually
    45°), and scaling percentage (100%).
    Select the Paper tab. For Paper Size, select Letter for documents 7.5X9 and smaller and Tabloid for documents larger than 7.5X9 if they contain bleeds. (If your documents do not contain bleeds, then Letter is fine for documents up to 8.5X11.)
  3. Under Layout, 1 Up should always be selected.
  4. Under Orientation, select Portrait.
  5. The number of copies should always be 1 and the paper source should be
    AutoSelect Tray. Click OK twice.

FOR WINDOWS NT 4.0

You will need the Windows NT system CD to install the PostScript driver.

  1. From the Printer Control Panel, click Add Printer.
  2. Select My Computer and click Next.

  4. From Available Ports, Select File. Click Next
  5. 1

  6. From the list of Manufacturers select Agfa-Proset 9800SF v2013.108. Click Next.
  7. 1

  8. Select whether or not you want this printer to be the default printer for all your documents. Click Next .
  9. Select Not Shared. Click Next.
  10. Select No for test page. Click Finish.

Configuring the Driver

  1. Select the Agfa Driver in the Printer Control Panel.
  2. From the File Menu, select Document Defaults.
  3. In the Page setup tab, select Letter for documents 7.5X9 and smaller and Tabloid for documents larger than 7.5X9 that contain bleeds. (If your documents do not contain bleeds, then Letter is fine for documents up to 8.5X11.)
  4. Select Portrait under Orientation and Color under Color Appearance.
  5. Select the Advanced Tab. Select Graphic and set Resolution to 2400DPI. Select TrueType Font and set to “Download as Soft Fonts”.
  6. 1

  7. In the PostScript Options, set PostScript Output to Optimize for Portability.
  8. Set TrueType Font Download Options to Outline.

FOR WINDOWS 2000

You might need the system CD to install the PostScript driver.

  1. From the Printer Control Panel, click Add Printer. Click Next.
  2. Select Local Printer. De-select Automatically Detect & Install Plug and Play Printer. Click Next.
  3. 1

  4. From Available Ports, Select File. Click Next
  5. 1

  6. From the list of Manufacturers select Agfa-Proset 9800SF v2013.108. Click Next.
  7. 1

  8. Select whether or not you want this printer to be the default printer for all your documents. Click Next .
  9. Select Not Shared. Click Next.
  10. Select No for test page. Click Next.
  11. Click Finish.

  2. From the Layout tab select Portrait.
  3. Select the Advanced button (bottom of the dialog box).
  4. From Paper/Output option select Letter for documents 7.5X9 and smaller or Tabloid for documents larger than 7.5X9 if they contain bleeds. (If your documents do not contain bleeds, then Letter is fine for documents up to 8.5X11.)
  5. From the Graphic options, set Printer Quality to 2400X2400DPI, select TrueType font and change to Download as Soft Font.
  6. From the PostScript options, set PostScript Output to Optimize for Portability.

  8. For TrueType Download option, select Outline.

FOR WINDOWS XP

You might need the system CD to install the PostScript driver.

Optional Driver Settings

By default PostScript drivers are configured to substitute certain TrueType fonts with their Type 1 equivalents, namely: Arial to Helvetica, CourierNew to Courier and TimesNewRoman to Times. The following are the steps necessary to change these defaults if these substitutions are not desired.

  1. In the Printer and Faxes control panel select the PostScript driver that you will be using to generate PostScript.
  2. Right-click and select Properties.
  3. 1

  4. In the Properties dialog box select Device Settings.
  5. 1

  6. Look for a line that reads ‘Font Substitution Table’.
  7. Double-click ‘Font Substitution Table’. This is a list of all installed TrueType fonts and options on how the PostScript driver is to handle them. By default Arial is set to be substituted with Helvetica, CourierNew with Courier and TimesNewRoman with Times.

  9. Beside Arial select Helvetica. Click the down-arrow and select <Don’t Substitute>.
  10. Repeat for other fonts that you don’t want to be substituted.
  11. 1

  12. Click OK as needed to save the changes.
