Webcom Leads the Way with $100,000 Donation
On May 31, 2001, The Canadian Printing Industries Scholarship Trust Fund (CPISTF) grew by $100,000 as a result of a generous donation by Webcom Limited. Jeff Wilkins, President of Webcom Limited, and Warren Wilkins, Webcom Chairman and Chairman of the CPISTF presented CPISTF Treasurer, Dave Walker, with a cheque for $100,000, the largest donation ever received by the Fund. This donation kicked off the new "Beyond the Millennium" fundraising campaign, which has set the endowment goal of $1 million.
Webcom is now challenging the printers from across Canada to donate funds to help ensure a strong, well-trained workforce for the printing industry of the future. While all printers will not be able to donate to the same extent, the CPISTF is offering some special fundraising initiatives that will encourage printers to become involved.
More than 500 students have received scholarships from the CPISTF since it started in 1971. On average, 50 scholarships have been granted each year for study at printing programs in any of 33 post-secondary institutions across Canada. A recent decision by the Board of Trustees of the Fund will see an increase in the amount of each scholarship to $1,250 per person from it's previous amount of $1000. In addition, the CPISTF will grant a full scholarship to the best student in each of the regions represented by the Formerly Affiliated Regional Associations (FARAs) across the country.
