Webcom Launches PDF Publishing Tool

With the introduction of PDF Book Builder, Webcom offers a web-based publishing tool that helps our customers make the transition from a paper to a digital workflow. PDF Book Builder allows a user to create a new PDF document (for print, CD or web) from an archive (or Digital Library) of PDF documents, shortening the publishing cycle for frequently updated documents.

The process is flexible.
PDF Book Builder makes managing and reusing PDFs easier than ever before. Once your PDF files are saved in the Digital Library users benefit from this complete and integrated solution, which enables controlled distribution and access to PDF material. With it Webcom can:

  • Easily store and retrieve PDF documents with PDF Book Builder’s search function.
  • Quickly create new PDF publications by recombining sections or chapters and output to Print, CD or Web.
  • Automatically generate the Table of Contents and pagination for new PDF editions.
  • Create PDF files with hyperlinks, just like a website. The hyperlinks can take readers to a specific place within the document, or to a web address. (For example, your document could contain a "clickable" Table of Contents or allow you to sell ad space within a document that would direct the viewer to the advertisers web site.)

The process is simple.
Customers supply PDF files to Webcom and we strip out page numbers, assign key words to enable searching, save chapters or sections as separate PDF files and then organize the files into a structure (Digital Library) that enables searching by author, topic, chapter or key words. Then the user, whether it’s Webcom or the publisher, selects the chapters or sections that are required and instantly creates a new PDF document that is automatically repaginated with a new Table of Contents.

Suppliers/Distributors save time and stay organized.
Industrial suppliers or distributors will quickly realize the benefits of being able to store and reuse the many PDF documents they receive from their product manufacturers. They can build their own catalogs for print, CD or Web. Besides hyperlinks within the document and to Web sites, they can also add areas for variable data, meaning that their catalogs can be customized and digitally printed so they contain information of interest to each specific recipient. And because it’s a Web-based tool, you can access the information from anywhere, anytime.

Publishers extend the life of their publications.
From college course readers containing assorted articles by various authors and lifelong learning materials to trade books containing short stories, publishers will benefit from the quick and easy-to-use process that saves their content as separate PDFs and allows them to recombine them for future editions.
