WEBCOM RECEIVES NATIONAL RECOGNITION FOR PRODUCTIVITY IMPROVEMENT
Toronto, ON, November 17, 2006 - Webcom's Corporate Vice President, Jeff Wilkins and the head of IT, Mark Delvecchio stepped onto the stage at The Canadian Information Productivity Awards (CIPA) Gala Banquet on November 1, 2006 to receive congratulations for outstanding gains in productivity. CIPA recognized Webcom as a 2006 Finalist Achievement award recipient together with an elite group of 64 Canadian companies selected from an original list of 200 nominees.
CIPA's awards program commemorates organizations that have applied IT innovation to improve productivity and efficiency throughout the organization. Finalists for the annual awards are selected from entries submitted by public and private organizations of all sizes and types across Canada.
Webcom was selected as one of this year's finalists based on an entry which outlined its application of Microsoft Business Solutions to develop a fully integrated ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system referred to internally as POEM (Production Order Estimating Management) that connects all the business process of book production. The integration merged 18 stand-alone systems into one to achieve an astonishing 33% workflow improvement, a 25% improvement in tracking projects and an ability to generate cost estimates in minutes rather than days.
The company serves a broad range of customers needs printing books, catalogs and directories across eight diverse business sectors. Such diversity demands flexibility and the ability to simplify complex process. POEM operates behind the scenes to provide Webcom employees with the tools needed to identify efficiencies and cost-saving alternatives for their customers.
"CIPA is pleased to acknowledge Webcom's accomplishment," said Norm Kirkpatrick, President and CEO of CIPA. Webcom has capitalized on their ERP system to increase the productivity and competitiveness of their organization."
Jeff Wilkins wrapped up his thoughts of the evening with this comment, "This recognition from CIPA touches every employee in our company. To replace an entire business system has meant years of hard, dedicated effort by all involved. It's a feeling of great satisfaction for the Webcom team to be acknowledged for the success of turning a vision into reality".
